Bicycle Policy

This bicycle use policy is designed to ensure a safe environment at Southeastern University.

Requirements

  • All bicycles must be registered with the Safety & Security Department at the main office in South Pointe F2 (next to the tennis courts. This applies to all staff, faculty, and students. There will be no charge for this service.
  • All bicycle owners will be issued a copy of the registration form. One copy will be on file with the Office of Safety and Security, and another copy will be sent to the Lakeland Police Department. In the event that a registered bicycle is stolen, the registration form will assist in the recovery process by determining ownership.
  • The decal numbers provided by the Lakeland Police Department will be placed on the bicycle in a manner that makes them easy to view by security.
  • All bicycles should be parked at designated bike racks only. It is not acceptable for personnel to park bicycles at any other location that creates a potential for loss or endangerment to any person on Southeastern University property (e.g., near doorways, under stairwells).
  • All bicycles parked on property should be secured with some type of locking device.
  • Because of limited visibility, bicycles should be walked through the corridor that connects the Addison Building to the Pansler Alumni-Student Building.

Penalties for Bicycle Violations

The failure to park a registered bicycle at a bicycle rack will warrant removal of the bicycle. The bicycle will be secured at the security office. The owner will be cited and charged a $5 recovery fee. If any registered operator receives four citations for improper parking of a bicycle, he or she will lose the privilege of operating a bicycle on campus for a period of not less than one semester. All bicycles not picked up within 30 days will be removed from university property.
