Traditional Undergraduate Academic Advising

How do I find out who my advisor is?

The student’s assigned academic advisors are listed within their JICS account. Watch this video for step-by-step instructions on how to view the name of the assigned academic advisor. Please contact the Office of Academic Advising at advising@seu.edu with any questions.

Students are assigned academic advisors based on their major of choosing. If a student changes their major, their academic advisor will also change. All students are assigned to a dedicated faculty advisor and staff advisor in support of the students’ academic journey.

The faculty advisor is the students initial point of contact for course selection, career advisement, and academic mentorship. The staff advisor is the secondary support for students in areas of general advisement, major selection, degree audit questions, and graduation readiness.

When should I see my advisor?

Each semester, all current and returning students (freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors) are strongly encouraged to meet with their faculty advisor during Open Advising. Open Advising takes place in the fall semester during October and in the spring semester during March.

To setup an appointment with your faculty advisor, please contact them via their SEU email address. To setup an appointment with your staff advisor, please contact the Office of Academic Advising at advising@seu.eduor 863-667-5082.

Has a hold been placed on your account?

Traditional Students:

An advisor hold prevents registration until the student meets with their assigned faculty advisor. The faculty advisor will remove the hold once the advising meeting takes place.

All freshman and juniors are required to meet with their academic advisor in the fall and spring semesters during Open Advising. An advisor hold will be placed on freshman and junior student accounts.

Faculty advisors have the option to place an advisor hold on each of their students to encourage advising meetings.
