Academics

How do I navigate SEU’s website and MyFire?
MyFire is the learning management system that you will access to engage in your course(s) and complete designated assignments. Please subscribe to our YouTube channel to view helpful tutorials.

Is there an opportunity to complete graduate and undergraduate credit?
Yes. The graduate coursework is more rigorous and requires an undergraduate transcript to receive the certificate. Both undergraduate and graduate credits are the same tuition rate.

Is attendance at a Catalyst event required to participate in the Catalyst University program?
Currently, yes. You can attend either a Catalyst 1-day event or 2-day event. If you attend a 1-day event, you will have a small amount of additional coursework to compensate for the difference in time.

Where do I send my transcripts if enrolled for graduate credit?
An official copy of your undergraduate transcript should be sent to the admission office.
The transcripts can only be considered official if:

  • It comes directly from the granting institution in a sealed envelope
  • Or, received through an email from an approved online transcript service

If you need to mail materials, you can send them to Southeastern University, Attn: Office of Admission, 1000 Longfellow Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33801. If electronic, please have them emailed to admission@seu.edu.

Who is my professor?
There will be multiple professors in each course, contributing to the discussions and grading your coursework in a timely manner. Instructors are available to answer questions via email or phone, as needed.

Can I complete one course at a time?
Yes. Each course in the Catalyst University program builds on the previous course(s). You can enroll in the 9-hour certificate at the beginning or add to your schedule periodically. If you choose to add the second and third courses in the program periodically (after only signing up for the first course initially), please email catalyst@seu.edu for instructions on where to register for the subsequent courses.

I’m a busy person. What is the workload like and format?
The course format is designed for students to move at their own pace. Students have 3 months to finish the first course (The Art of Self-Leadership) and 9 months to finish the remaining two courses (Frameworks for Collaboration | Leading for Innovation). The syllabus provides details on course expectations. You may download the syllabi at seu.edu/catalystu.

What if I don’t finish the courses in the allotted time?
If you are not able to complete the CU courses within the allotted time frame (90 days for each course), then you may contact your instructor and ask for an extension. It is up to the discretion of your instructor whether or not to provide up to a 30 day extension. If you do not contact your instructor before the end of the 90 days or you do not complete assignments within the extension window provided, then your instructor will assign you a “WF” (withdrawal-fail) for the course. This will permanently remain on your SEU transcript and will affect your GPA in the same way as an “F.” You have the opportunity to retake the course after this grade has been assigned, but you must re-register and pay for the course again.

Can I audit this program?
No. This program is designed exclusively for those who participate at a Catalyst conference and join the for-credit courses.

What is a Certified Catalyst Leader Badge?
Student who successfully complete the The Art of Self-Leadership course will earn the Certified Catalyst Leader badge, which is a digital credential that can be added to your LinkedIn or other public profiles. SEU utilizes Credly to administer the badge for students.

Are my credits transferrable? How do I check?
Yes, undergraduate and graduate credits earned through the Catalyst University program are eligible for transfer to another institution. SEU cannot guarantee that credits will be accepted by another institution. It is the responsibility of the student to seek approval for any transfer credit. If you intend to transfer credits to another institution, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Download the syllabi for the courses from the university website. See seu.edu/catalystu.
  2. Apply with your home institution to enroll in SEU courses and transfer these credits back into your home institution. At SEU, this is called the transient approval process.
  3. Complete the Catalyst University coursework and maintain copies of all completed and graded assessments.
  4. Request an official transcript from SEU that can be sent directly to the other institution. See the SEU website for details.

Can I continue my degree at Southeastern?
Absolutely. These credits will transfer seamlessly into our undergraduate and graduate degree programs that emphasize leadership development. Examples include the BS in Ministerial Leadership, BS in Organizational Leadership, MA in Entrepreneurial Leadership (forthcoming), and MA in Ministerial Leadership. To consider your options, you may speak with one of our admission counselors.

Financial

How much is each course?
Each course is typically $500, but depending on the event, the university may offer a reduced tuition rate for the first course in the program. See seu.edu/catalystu for details.

Can I receive student loans and funding for these courses?
Not currently. The university only issues federal, state, and institutional aid for enrollment in degree-seeking programs (e.g., associate, bachelors, masters, etc.). The Catalyst University program is consider a certificate of SEU and is not eligible for financial aid from these sources. We did, however, reduce dramatically the tuition rate to offer the program at an affordable level.
